Blowing your nose provides incredible relief when you’re
congested, but it’s surprisingly easy to do more damage than good.
The typical nose-blow generates 10X more pressure than
a sneeze or a cough.
That’s why it’s a good idea to avoid blowing both nostrils at
once. That’s a lot of pressure for your nasal passage. According to a team of
researchers from the University of Virginia, when you blow your nose too
forcefully you risk irritating your narrow nasal passageways and spreading
the infection.
How to: Safe Nose Blowing
- Moisten your nasal passages with saline mist or spray
- Take the wind out of your sails and
blow gently.
- It’s not a race, one nostril at a time.
