Death in Paris

People of Paris our hearts and prayers go out to all persons affected by the shocking and senseless violence that took so many lives and changed so many more lives forever. Because of the tragedy in Paris this past weekend, you will not likely hear about Laurent’s death. He passed away in his sleep not killed on the streets like many others. Yet, Laurent’s story is important to hear.

Laurent Vidal a top triathlon athlete and coach, fiancé to Andrea Hewitt and her everything in life died November 11, 2015. He was just 31 years old. Unfortunately, his death is not isolated. These sudden deaths happen all over the world.

Studies show in New Zealand a country of just 4.5 million people, that ninety people ages one to thirty-five will go to sleep, then go into cardiac arrest every year. According to Dr. Jonathan Skinner of the Auckland Children’s Hospital and chair of the Cardiac Inherited Diseases group, which investigates the science dealing with these unexplained young people’s deaths.

Beware of these warning signs while taking part in physical activities:
  • Sudden fatigue
  • Sudden dizziness
  • Sudden shortness of breath
If this can happen to Laurent, a 2012 Olympian then who else is affected by this heart arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat). Only the experts like Dr. Skinner can tell you, but I know these deaths also happen in Ontario. We have a post on Facebook about a Toronto marathoner collapsing in cardiac arrest.
